What Is a Course Structure?

Your course structure is the organized outline of your modules, lessons, and learning progression. In CustomerHub, this structure is created using:

  • Sections (optional): groupings such as modules or phases

  • Pages: individual lessons, activities, or pieces of content

Mapping your structure before building helps you work faster and deliver a smoother learning experience.

Why Mapping Your Course Structure Matters

A well-planned structure helps you:

  • Deliver content in a logical sequence

  • Reduce confusion for users

  • Improve course completion rates

  • Make the build process faster and more organized

  • Ensure everything you include supports your course promise

Without a structure, courses tend to become overwhelming, inconsistent, or unfocused.

How to Map Your Course Structure

  1. Start with your course promise
Use the main outcome (Article #1) as your guide.

  2. Identify the major milestones or phases your user will move through
These will become your modules (sections).

  3. Break down each milestone into actionable steps
    These become your lessons (pages).

  4. Decide the sequence
Place lessons in the order users should complete them.

  5. Determine optional vs. required content
Only required material should appear in the main flow.

  6. Choose your content format for each lesson
Examples: video, text, worksheets, audio, links, downloads.

  7. Review the entire structure for clarity and flow
Ask: “Does this get users to the promised outcome efficiently?”

Example Course Structure

Module 1: Getting Started

  • Lesson 1.1: Course Overview

  • Lesson 1.2: Tools & Setup Guide

Module 2: Core Skills

  • Lesson 2.1: Skill #1

  • Lesson 2.2: Skill #2

  • Lesson 2.3: Practice Exercise

Module 3: Apply & Build

  • Lesson 3.1: Guided Project

  • Lesson 3.2: Submit Your Work

Module 4: Final Steps

  • Lesson 4.1: Review & Next Steps

  • Lesson 4.2: Certificate / Completion Action

Best Practices

  • Keep modules clear and simple

  • Avoid overwhelming users with too many lessons

  • Aim for 3–7 modules and 5–20 lessons total (varies by course type)

  • Make each lesson short, focused, and actionable

  • Use consistent naming (e.g., “Module 1,” “Lesson 1.1”)

  • Match the structure to your delivery style (Immediate, User-Advanced, Drip)

FAQ

Do I need to use sections (modules)?
No. If your course is short, you can use pages only. Sections are optional and helpful for larger courses.

Can I change the structure later?
Yes. You can reorder, rename, or reorganize sections and pages anytime.

Does mapping the structure affect delivery settings?
Yes. Sequential (User-Advanced) or Drip (Time-Delayed) delivery works best with a clear structure.
