How to Create and Use Action Links

Create Action Links to trigger automations, redirect users, log activity, or run custom actions directly from buttons and links inside your pages.

Updated this week

What Are Action Links?

Action Links allow you to trigger actions when a user clicks a button or link inside a page.

Instead of sending users to a standard URL, Action Links can:

  • Trigger automations

  • Log user activity

  • Redirect to pages or checkouts

  • Download files

  • Scroll to page elements

  • Show or hide content

  • Run custom code

They connect user engagement inside CustomerHub to your automation and CRM systems.

When to Use Action Links

Common use cases include:

  • One-click event registration

  • Triggering a CRM tag when a user clicks

  • Sending users to a checkout page

  • Unlocking bonus content

  • Tracking interest in offers

  • Running JavaScript-based actions

If you want a click to do something, use an Action Link.

How to Create an Action Link

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Content

  3. Select Action Links

  4. Click Create Action Link

  5. Enter a name (internal use)

  6. Choose the action type

  7. Configure the settings

  8. Toggle from Draft to Live

Available Action Types

When creating an Action Link, you can choose what happens when it is clicked.

Available actions include:

  • Open URL — Redirect to any web address

  • Go to Product — Send users to a specific product

  • Go to Checkout — Send users to a Stripe checkout

  • Download File — Trigger a file download

  • Scroll to Element — Scroll to a specific section on the page

  • Show/Hide Element — Dynamically display or hide content

  • Submit Form — Trigger a form submission

  • Run Code — Execute custom JavaScript

Styling Options

You can customize how the Action Link appears when inserted as a button.

Options include:

  • Button text

  • Button size (Small, Medium, Large)

  • Button style:

    • Primary

    • Secondary

    • Accent

    • Success

    • Warning

    • Dark

    • Outline

    • Gradient

    • Custom

  • Open in new tab (for URLs)

These styles use your theme settings.

Enabling Click Tracking

Action Links can log activity when clicked.

To enable tracking:

  1. Toggle Track Clicks

  2. Save the Action Link

When enabled, CustomerHub logs a User Button Clicked activity.

This activity can:

  • Appear in the Engagement section

  • Trigger automations in connected apps

How Activity Logging Works

When tracking is enabled:

  • A click event is recorded

  • The event appears in Engagement

  • The event can be used as a trigger inside connected apps

If you are using Keep, ActiveCampaign, or other integrations, this activity can trigger automation workflows.

Triggering Automations in Connected Apps

When connected to an external app:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select Connectors

  3. Open your connected app

  4. Locate activity triggers

You will see:

  • User Button Clicked

This can be used to:

  • Apply tags

  • Add to lists

  • Start campaigns

  • Trigger workflows

Action Links bridge on-page engagement with your CRM automation.

Best Practices

  • Use clear, action-driven button text (e.g., “Register Now”)

  • Always enable tracking for important actions

  • Name Action Links clearly (internal naming matters for automation)

  • Keep styling consistent with your theme

  • Test in Preview mode before publishing
